Antebellum Period
by Sara Morgan

With Georgia leading the South in textile production and the invention of the cotton gin, women moved from wearing silk clothing to more practical cotton fabrics which were manufactured here. This collection of pre-war textiles are typical of what you might find in the houses and closets in the South. Also during this time, Women's Rights became an important issue, as women argued for political privilege and equality as they took their place as important employees in the factories and workhouses.
